Story: He learned blacksmithing from his father and kept attending school. He was appointed teacher in
Caledonia, NY and attended further school between terms. After he finished his academics, he took up
the study of medicine while continuing teaching. He secured his diploma from U. of Buffalo in Feb. 1852
and went into practice in Waterloo, NY.

In June that year, he set sail for California from NYC. He finally settled in Oakland, CA
and in 1855 traveled east to marry Elizabeth. While back east, he took a post-grad course in Jefferson Med. College
in Philadelphia.

He practiced in Seneca Falls, NY, later moving to Madison Co., Iowa, from there going back to California in 1857.

He was President of Trinity Gold Mining Co. & supplied the money for the company as major partner
of O.M. Loveridge and Peter Paulsen.
